turfdirectory.com.tv, the Horseracing Directory and Free Classified Ads website has teamed up with a number of East European Employment Agencies in a bid to resolve the acute shortage of experienced stable staff afflicting Horseracing businesses — including racing stables and studs in Britain and Ireland.
Free Recruitment Advertisements for staff placed by racing and breeding businesses on the turfdirectory.com.tv website will automatically be distributed to specialist recruitment agencies in Bulgaria, The Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia where the jobs will be advertised, published and promoted by them locally.
Respondents and applicants to the advertisements will be pre-interviewed in their own country by the agency — with recommended applications channelled back through the turfdirectory.com site to the potential UK employer.
As all the applicants will be EU nationals within the Single Market the process sidesteps complex employment rules and bureaucracy which affects potential non-European recruits
“We don’t know whether this will work, but everyone in racing knows there is a crisis and there seem to be few other options” says turfdirectory.com’s Commercial Director Antonia Simons.
“It’s free to list a job with us so there is no risk, but there is no point people advertising if there are no people in the UK available to fill the roles. There is no point us running jobs for trainers and studs if there aren’t enough people to fill them. By targeting our stable staff and rider recruitment on Europe we are hoping to attract a new pool of applicants.”
Many racing businesses have multiple vacancies and the current staff shortfall for the racing industry in Britain alone is estimated to be in excess of 1000, with many recruitment advertisements receiving no response. The shortage results from a tightening up of employment rules for hiring employees from outside the EU, particularly the Indian sub-continent which have traditionally provided high quality staff.
“The BHA has dramatically increased industry budgets for recruitment,” says Simons “but obviously that is going to take a considerable time to work. Racing is an international industry and we see turfdirectory.com as very much an international directory so it makes sense to use our international contacts to see if we can help with this.”stable staff work rider jobs crisis recruitment
