Graham Bradley heads up our Bloodstock Agency and Racing Services team working operating in association with local agents and breeding specialists in Ireland, France and throughout Europe.
Known as a shrewd and astute purchaser of horses, Graham began his Bloodstock career while still working as a jockey buying Vicious Circle before he won Europe’s richest handicap, the Ebor Handicap at York in 1999
Other Bradley purchases included (for David Johnson) Acambo – Swinton Hurdle 2006, Ladbroke Hurdle 2006; Well Chief – 2nd in Triumph Hurdle, Elite Hurdle 2003, Arkle Chase, Magull Chase 2004, Victor Chandler Chase, Celebration Chase, 2nd in Queen Mother Champion Chase 2005, Game Spirit Chase 2007, Connaught Chase 2009, and Martin Pipe’s highest ever rated racehorse – at 177).
And for premiership footballers Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler Seebald – Won 7 novice chases in a row and was 2nd in Arkle to Moscow Flyer 2001/2002, Queen Mother Celebration Chase 2003, Faucets Silver Trophy Chase 2004.
Brad sees and rides every horse we buy enabling him to get a great feel for the horse’s movement and report back to you. We will typically provide a detailed report prior to the horse being vetted which will take into consideration the horse’s recent running history but on which you should be able to make a better informed purchase decision.
When we buy a horse we are working for the buyer alone—and our sole aim is to find a fit and healthy horse with ability which fully meets your requirements.
Getting the Requirements Clear
Before you start Graham will spend some time making sure we know your precise requirements so we can best seek to meet your needs.Of course everyone wants winners but other questions arise, including in what code and at what level you want to compete; over what distance; how long you want to keep the horse, etc. etc. – all of which will affect the purchase price.
A Pre-Agreed Budget
We will always agree a budget with you before we start to look for horses. Bargains do come along but it is important that the price parameters are agreed from the outset.
Finding the Right Horse
Many horses become available every year through a wide variety of channels from publicly advertised auction to private sale. Racing can often seem a closed community to outsiders, the processes by which the industry works at best opaque, at worst confusing. Graham Bradley and our bloodstock team are undoubtedly insiders who have a range of agents and contacts in the UK, Ireland and across Europe who will point us in the direction of a suitable horse. We will then select a short list which will be refined to he point where we think we have found 2-3 that perfectly meet your needs, whereupon we will present them as options with all the relative merits and demerits explained.
Avoiding Horses with Problems
All purchases are subject to veterinary inspection before purchase but using a knowledgeable team with inside experience of the market often helps us avoid even considering problem horses. Trying out a horse by riding it will often reveal problems which might trouble the purchaser if not troubling the vet.
